3 Things I Learned from Graham Cochrane
I like to track the DI along with the mic. That way, I can use the DI to support the mic track, if needed. It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
2:35 ofc its gonna be terrible, its sopposed to be slid only a bit, not as much as you did here. Personally, whille i dont find it that pleasent, i dont dislike it that much
The initial one 2:46 With the change doubling With recording of another one The final one 5:45 For back to back listening
He means 0 dBU equals -18 dB FS (full scale). RMS is a separate concept about power “average” which could be applied to either metric.
I think a bit of both helps - and it really does go back to the days of printing to tape…noise floor, tape ‘hiss’ etc but you can’t go past a fader/pan mix as if the ‘band’ was playing live IMHO JPMusic
Great job friend! Very help full
I record at -18 so my levels start off the same anyway. Then I adjust them afterwards.
Real good thank you 😃
It does help, having developed a fantastic voice and great mic technique 😅
Joe! Thanks man! So glad I found your stuff. You explain everything in such simple terms. Really really helpful. God bless, man!
Is there a reason to use the stereo image plug-in rather than simply hitting the mono button on the master bus which studio one has?
Gain staging is so your audio is prepped for upcoming edits, such as soft compression, EQ, hard compression etc, when the audio is at its correct levels it hits them plugins in its best possible format
Please help me with Studio One Prime... I can't upload plugins. Maybe it's the Prime version.. For me it's difficult coming from Protools... I just want to add my plugins without all the extra set up... I just want to add simple instruments and effects.. It sucks that I have to find and install plugins but I could be wrong..
Why no pre on the tracks send
My problem is the remix will end up the same as the first one 😂
I really miss when it was Graham doing this channel.

Very nice tricks, thanks for sharing
Hi Chris. Long time fan. Can I just say THANK YOU: videos like this save us little guys so much money. Helping us unlock our voices: you total legend!
tip 3, dont look back that is so good and honest
Hey Chris! I was going down a rabbit hole looking for videos on the best headphones when tracking vocals and stumbled on your video. Like a lot of vocalists, I tend to wear only one side when tracking vocals so I can hear the room better. Most videos give terrible reviews of the AKG 240’s, but I took a leap of faith and picked them up. GAME-CHANGER! I can’t believe the difference it made in not only my comfort, but my performance. Thank you for making this video man, I’m forever grateful 🙌🏻
This is the most important tip, I wish I had learned it earlier in my life
Can I run regular mic's along with the Phantom mic on the same pa board ??
Auratone 5c are not crappy at all! Stop compare them to computer logitech..
To me gain staging is merely optimising the level for the next processor in the chain. Therefore, putting a level adjustment device (such as a utility plugin in ableton, if your working ITB) achieves this. Personally I think the concept of gain staging has become overly complex when speaking to a largely digital audience.
I never thought of this! Genius!
excellent video, one of the best tutorials I've seen
It’s really simple you just have to play it gooder !😂
Just came across this channel today
What song is that?
I might have to steal that beginning riff 😭 (I’m jk) rad tutorial
This is a very good lesson. Thank you.
Lovely Chorus
If you call it a “live remix”, the accusation of cheating is off the table. We all do some kind of live remix every day, the original just wakes up in the morning with twisted hair (if there's any left). By the way, your radio-ready song guide is really brilliant! Stay tuned and don't let the joy be taken away from you.
For anyone looking to buy this the output slider is 0db hard limited, so If your input is high then that hard clip will definitely be heard 👍
Can I Use Foam Just For The Ceiling I Can’t Put Panels On The Ceiling Everywhere Else Will Be Acoustic Panels I’m Only Recording Vocals and Making Beats
I hear a little Chris Cornell in there!
i think the lesson is if you suck at writing songs just make a video about recording songs
bUT jOE, WHAT IF I WANT TO PAN THE GUITAR TO JUST ONE SIDE, SHOULD I STILL DUPLICATE?
Well done. Rode NT1 is my favorite mic for both guitar and vocal. It’s amazing how much the Rode adds to the vocal as soft as it is picked up. Magic. :-)
I haven't really recorded songs in years (at least not anything needed to this quality level), and getting back into it, I'm so glad this channel is still around. Graham really explains things simply without talking down, doesn't miss anything. Hell, he actually answers questions just before that exact question pops up in my head. I am pretty sure this UA-cam channel is responsible for some of the better UA-cam music videos that happened about 10 years ago. Graham (and now Joe): thank you for helping me hone my craft!
Amazing ❤ I understand everything u said
I have drum mics that use 2 condenser over head mics, and 4 "regular" mics. My mixer phantom power button uses 6 channels when turned on. So, my question is, with the phantom power on, if I plug in my "regular mics " into one of the channels that is using the phantom power, will I ruin the microphone? Thanks in advance!
Won’t this just make the bass overwhelming on better speakers/headphones?
Nice. How is the Song in the demo called? I like the singing. :)

That is some great content

Most jobs will not let you reduce hours like that mate.
Not everyone has time/energy to grind and hustle on the side along with their full time job. Or you'll just get super burnt out.
6 years later and the answer to the title question is yes.
